Congratulations to New VA Poet Laureate

timGovernor Terry McAuliffe has appointed Old Dominion University Professor Tim Seibles to serve as the poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  He replaces Shenandoah columnist Ron Smith and assumed the responsibilities of the office in mid-July.

Seibles is the author of five poetry collections, including Hammerlock, Hurdy-Gurdy and Fast Animal, a finalist for the 2012 National Book Award.  Now he will serve as the poetry ambassador for Virginia.  An interview with Seibles, conducted by Chapman Frazier, appears in volume 64.2 of Shenandoah and can be accessed through our archives links on the homepage.

Previous VA. laureates include Charles Wright, Rita Dove, Claudia Emerson, George Garrett and Kelly Cherry.
