We offer our congratulations. Natasha Trethewey, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Native Guard, has been named by the Library of Congress to serve as the nation’s 19th Poet Laureate. Trethewey teaches at Emory University and is the author of two other previous collections and the forthcoming Thrall. Her precise and resonant poems address questions of identity, history, memory, danger, the domestic arts as well as the fine arts. Widely published, she has appeared in Shenandoah and read at Washington and Lee.
R. T. Smith has edited Shenandoah since 1995 and serves as Writer-in-Residence at Washington & Lee. His forthcoming books are Doves in Flight: 13 Fictions and Summoning Shades: New Poems, both due in 2017.
